A Conflict arises when individuals have varied interests, opinions and thought processes and are just not willing to compromise with each other. It is always wise to adjust to some extent and try to find a solution to the problem rather than cribbing and fighting. Conflicts and disagreements only lead to negativity and things never reach a conclusion.
Conflict management seeks to resolve the disagreement or conflict with positive outcomes that satisfy all individuals involved or to the beneficial of a group

Conflict Management Learning Outcomes
To identify and manage the resolution of conflict between persons or parties in the workplace
Topic 1: Sources of conflict
- Definition of conflict
- List of possible sources of conflict
- Positive and negative characteristics of conflict in the workplace.
Topic 2: Types of conflicts.
- Types of conflicts.
- Organisational conflict modes.
Topic 3: Strategies for conflict management.
- Various business conflict modes.
- Useful steps to be taken to manage conflict
- Describe the route, which conflicts normally follow toward resolution can be described with examples.
Topic 4: Techniques in conflict management.
- Methods available to resolve conflict in terms of the Labour Relations Act
- The role of policies and procedures in place in the organisation are explained in terms of their role in preventing and/or resolving conflicts.
Topic 5: Conflict consequences analysis.
- Explain the attributes of an effective conflict manager.
- Personal attributes of a good conflict manager can be listed with examples of how each characteristic contributes to conflict resolution.
- The negative attributes which should be avoided or controlled by an effective conflict manager are listed with an explanation of the negative effect each has on the resolution of conflict.
Topic 6: Emotional intelligence in conflict resolution.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles and concepts of emotional intelligence in respect of life and work relations..
- Analyse the role of emotional intelligence in interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships in life and work situations.
- Analyse the impact of emotional intelligence on life and work interactions.
- Evaluate own level of emotional intelligence in order to determine development areas.

- Definition of The Conflict Resolution.
- Types of Conflict Resolution Skills.

INSTRUCTIONS

- Analyse a conflict profile and determine the causes of conflict
- Determine and implement appropriate conflict management strategies

- Compile and implement conflict resolution follow up plan
