Their duties of a freight handler include receives, allocates, stores, picks, reconciles and dispatches freight through a storage facility..
This qualification reflects workplace-based needs in the wider Freight Handling Industry, both now and in the future. Freight Handling is diverse in nature, therefore a fairly wide range of competencies are required by employees. The qualification aims to provide the foundational and initial skills required for an individual in the industry to handle freight successfully; be an effective team member; and to undertake those tasks required to contribute to the effective processing of freight.
The Occupational Certificate in Freight Handling provides a learning opportunity for learners who wish to pursue and advance a career in the movement of goods and ensure that freight is handled safely and in an efficient way. The qualification prepares learners for employment opportunities within the broader freight transport industry, which includes a variety of settings, such as, warehouses, factories, ports, rail and airports. Knowledge obtained will be useful within various goods handling environments. - WM-05-WE02: Identify and select the correct securing methods for different types of freight being handled and prepared for dispatch
- WM-05-WE03: Interpret and adhere to administrative procedures relating to the recording of dispatched freight
- WM-05-WE04: Identify, interpret and adhere to organisational processes for safe practices and housekeeping principles to be practiced within the dispatch area

Eligibility requirements for the external summative assessment:
In order to qualify for the external summative assessment learners must have a copy of a completed and signed Statement of Work Experience as well as proof of successful completion of the following subjects and modules or alternative programmes where applicable.
Upon completion of this course, students will be awarded an Occupational Certificate: Freight Handler from the QCTO.
Entry Level Requirements Into This Programme
- Certified copy of your ID document.
- NSC, SC or NC(V) at NQF Level 2
- Candidates must be aged 19 or over.
Learning Assumed to Be in Place and Recognition of Prior Learning
- Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 4
Target Audience
Intended for all warehouse personnel, and will provide participants with an excellent foundational knowledge of logistics and warehouse fundamentals coupled with an understanding of maintaining and enhancing the level and quality of service expected by customers.

When all internal assessments is complete you will conduct a final assessment at approved assessment centre and QCTO will issue a occupational certificate on successful completion of the course
External assessment:The external assessment will be conducted through a combination of a written assessment and practical task at a registered trade test centre. The written examination will be concluded at the registered assessment centre and marked by registered assessors. Practical tasks will also be assessed by registered assessors. The combination of the written and practical assessment will be conducted over a period of one working day During both the theoretical and practical assessments, the learner must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of receiving, allocating, picking, storage, reconciling and dispatching of freight.
External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA): The External integrated summative assessment conducted through the relevant QCTO Assessment Quality partner is required for the issuing of this qualification. The external integrated summative assessment will focus on the exit level outcomes and associated assessment criteria. The external assessment will be conducted through a theoretical assessment by an assessor registered by the AQP at approved assessment centres.
Eligibility requirements for the external summative assessment:
In order to qualify for the external summative assessment, learners must have a copy of a completed and signed Statement of Work Experience as well as proof of successful completion of the Knowledge Modules and Practical Skills Modules.
Certification: The QCTO will issue the certificate to successful candidates after completion of the EISA.
